The Department of Architecture of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and Habitat for Humanity International-Bangladesh (HFHI-B) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 09 August 2026 to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including affordable housing, climate-smart housing, sustainable development, research, innovation, and youth engagement. The signing ceremony was held at the VC Conference Room of AUST.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. G M A Balayet Hossain, Head of the Department of Architecture, AUST, and Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman, National Director of Habitat for Humanity International-Bangladesh, on behalf of their respective organizations. Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor of AUST, and Prof. Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury, Pro Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) and Treasurer of AUST, were present at the ceremony.
It is worth noting that the MoU was initiated by Prof. Dr. Shehzad Zahir for the Department of Architecture. On behalf of HFHI-B, the witnesses were Abdullah Al Hasan, Associate Director of Resource Development and Strategic Partnerships, and Sharif Mahbubul Kuddus, Associate Director, Programs. Prof. Dr. Shehzad Zahir, Professor, Department of Architecture, and Architect Ishrat Badhon, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, signed the MoU on Behalf of AUST. Among others present were Prof. Dr. Farida Nilufar, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, AUST; Prof. Dr. Rumana Rashid, Professor; Architect Mr. Rifat Bin Ali, Lecturer, Department of Architecture; and senior officials of Habitat for Humanity International-Bangladesh.
The partnership is expected to promote joint academic and research initiatives and contribute to the development of sustainable and climate-resilient housing solutions through collaborative efforts between the two institutions. The first design project will be initiated in the Sathkhira Region.
