Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1995. It started its journey through its undergraduate program in Civil Engineering. The total enrolment in the 4-year B.Sc. program is about 1000. Since 2011, the department has also offered Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering. There are now 39 full-time faculty members including 4 Professors. In addition, 14 faculty members are on leave for higher studies. Besides, there are several part-time faculty members from reputed organizations. MESSAGE FROM HEAD


Starting its journey in 1995, the department of Civil Engineering of AUST has come a long way and has become one of the leading departments of the university. Since inception, the department has endeavored to produce quality engineers to serve the nation and abroad. Well-equipped laboratory facilities and an expanded curricula covering degrees in both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering attest to the continuous development process of the department. The B.Sc. Engineering degree offered by the Department of Civil Engineering, AUST, is officially recognized by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). Many of the graduates are working in different government and private organizations in Bangladesh. Numerous graduates are also working abroad. Some graduates are doing masters and PhD in Bangladesh and abroad.

The department believes that academic activities supplemented by extra-curricular and relevant co-curricular activities will produce well-rounded students ready to tackle the challenges of the world. AUST Civil Engineering Society (ACES) has been created for this purpose, to unite and represent all students of Civil Engineering department of AUST, in particular, their welfare, interest and establish positive and friendly relationship between teachers and students. ACES encourages participation in cultural, organizational, community, social and religious services. It organizes different activities including Fresher's reception, Farewell, cultural program, religious festivals, celebrating national occasions, quiz competition, debate competition, different kinds of seminars, workshops related to academic matters and contemporary issues. In addition, the society publishes paperback magazines and wall magazines on various occasions.

The objectives for the establishment of the Department of Civil Engineering are in line with the vision of AUST to become an exemplary university of internationally acknowledged stature, and excellence in teaching, research and scholarship. Furthermore, our academic program and learning environment have been designed to contribute to the quality and intellectual development of the students. Successful Civil Engineering graduates are creative, good communicators and skilled at solving problems and delivering results. With these qualities our graduates not only develop careers as high quality practicing engineers, but are also sought by top companies for their potential in management, finance, consulting and other senior professional positions. The department has a good number of regular faculties who are sincerely working with a unique vision for the development of the department.
