Department of EEE launches Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah Memorial Lecture Series


On 17th January, 2023, Department of EEE, AUST in association with AUST EEE Society, IEEE AUST Student Branch and IEEE SPS & IEEE ComSoc Joint SB Chapter organized an event entitled ‘Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah Memorial Lecture Series’. This is the first event in the series of lectures, which is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah, the former Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AUST. This seminar was held at the VC Seminar Room of AUST. The title of the seminar was ‘Satellite Communication System (Launching & Ground Station Operation)’ and the keynote speaker was Mr. Faisal Mohsin, Satellite Engineer, Satellite Operation Control Centre, Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited.

Honorable Vice Chancellor of AUST, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fazli Ilahi was present as the Chief guest of the event. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Pro-VC, AUST, Prof. Dr. S.M.A. Al-Mamun, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Head of different departments, Professors and other faculty members from Department of EEE and other departments were also present in the seminar. Around 95 student participants attended the presentation on Satellite communication system.

In the beginning, Prof. Dr. Tareq Aziz, Head, Department of EEE, delivered his short speech remembering the contributions of Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah to AUST and specially to the Department of EEE.

Vice Chancellor of AUST, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fazli Ilahi inaugurated the lecture series as the Chief guest of the event. In his speech, honorable VC, AUST shared his views about this seminar and highlighted the recent progress in space and satellite related activities in Bangladesh.

Mr. Faisal Mohsin, the keynote speaker of the event, has been working in the communication sector of Bangladesh for more than 10+ years. He played a crucial role in several big projects of all the major telecom operators and worked closely with R&D in the fields of big data analytics, QoS improvement and Radio network planning and optimization in GSM, UMTS, and LTE technology. He wonderfully conducted the session with his impressive presentation and communication with the participants.

After the presentation, an interactive Q&A session was held with a huge response from the audience moderated by Mazeda Zafor Meem (Chairperson, IEEE AUST Student Branch). All the queries are descriptively addressed by the keynote speaker. After that, He was awarded with the token of appreciation.

At the end, Prof. Dr. Bobby Barua delivered his speech where he added some key points of geostationary satellite operation and thanked the keynote speaker and all the participants and concluded the seminar.
