The Nanotechnology Research and Innovation Idea Competition 2026 was successfully organized by the Center for Nanotechnology (CN) at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). The event took place in the VC Seminar Room on July 30, 2026, serving as a vital platform for students to present transformative concepts in nanoscience and emerging technologies. Among the 115 submitted abstracts, only 16 were selected for final presentation, followed by a Q&A session. Five winners received certificates and attractive gifts, while all participants received certificates.
The competition allowed young innovators to explore diverse applications of nanotechnology, bridging fields such as physics, chemistry, and engineering. It builds on the university’s ongoing efforts to train the next generation of researchers and aligns with past successful initiatives hosted by the Center, such as the Seminar on Advancement of Nanotechnology. The event served as a high-profile platform for students and researchers to present cutting-edge work. The competition specifically highlighted multidisciplinary breakthroughs, demonstrating how nanotechnology intersects with medicine, environmental science, and advanced engineering to solve real-world problems.
Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque (Vice-Chancellor, AUST) praised the participants’ ingenuity. He emphasized the importance of fostering a robust research ecosystem within the university to meet global technological standards. Special Guest Prof. Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury (Pro-Vice-Chancellor In-charge and Treasurer, AUST) highlighted the role of financial and structural support in keeping university laboratories equipped for advanced nanoscience exploration. Guest Speakers, distinguished Chairman Prof. Dr. Golam Rahman, Board of Trustees, AUST, and Members Dr. Mohammad Khalilullah, Board of Trustees, AUST attended the event. They shared valuable insights on the commercialization of nanotech ideas and how research can directly advance community development.
The central leadership of the Center, including Director Professor Dr. Md. Meganur Rahman, supported the initiative to advance the university’s agenda on technical excellence and smart innovations. Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, Member Secretary of the Center for Nanotechnology, served a dual role as coordinator of the event and expert judge, evaluating the technical feasibility, originality, and presentation quality of the innovation pitches. The Executive Committee members of the Center for Nanotechnology actively contributed technical oversight, volunteer coordination, and administrative support, ensuring smooth logistics, efficient registration management, and seamless event execution.
The competition successfully fostered a spirit of competitive research among the student body. By bringing together the university administration, Dhaka Ahsania Mission trustees, and technical judges, the event bridged the gap between academic theory, institutional governance, and real-world application. The Center for Nanotechnology concluded the event with a commitment to scale up the competition in future iterations to include national-level participation.
