On January 31, 2023 KFR Library organized an Information Literacy Session on “Effective use of KFR Library Resources in Research and Scholarly Communication” For the students of level 4/1 and 4/2 of the Department of Textile Engineering, AUST at the M. H. Khan Auditorium. The session was conducted by Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Librarian and Mr. Md. Ershad Khan, Associate Professor, Department of TE.
The session was inaugurated by Mr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Former Head and Associate Professor, Department of Textile Engineering. Mr. Ruhul Amin said that this kind of session is very important for the students who are going to prepare their thesis in their final semester. Preparation for research and selection of topic and research proposal will have to start from level 4/1 under the guidance of the supervisor, he also added. He also thanked Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Librarian, AUST for taking this kind of initiative in AUST and encouraged to arrange such program in the upcoming semester.
The session was divided into two parts. In the first part, Mr. Md. Ershad Khan described the elements of project works and report writing. He also highlighted the key points of the process of thesis preparation, selection of topic, literature review process, and submission of research proposal, thesis evaluation methods, reference management tools, and so forth.
In the second part of the session, Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman delivered his lecture on KFR Library resources which was further divided into two segments: Theoretical and virtual tour to KFR Library. In the theoretical presentation, Dr. Raman described the sources of information, where and how to get those and in the virtual tour, he showed how to access the website of KFR Library and the numerous resources specially Scopus, Turnitin and so on. He also described the importance of Scopus and how to search SJR and SNIP index, top ranked journals on a single discipline using sources and how to run document, author and affiliation search on Scopus platform.
All the students from level 4/1 and 4/2 of undergraduate Textile Engineering program enjoyed this session with great enthusiasm. The participants expressed their gratitude for such a beneficial session for them. The session was concluded with great satisfaction from both sides.
