Industrial Visit to Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC for the students of the Department of EEE

On August 29, 2026, the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), in collaboration with the IEEE AUST Student Branch, organized an industrial visit to Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC in Kaliakair, Gazipur. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical engineering applications by providing students with first-hand exposure to large-scale manufacturing, assembly, and testing processes of refrigerators and air conditioners.

The delegation was led by faculty members Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ehtesanul Islam, Mr. Md. Bin Yeamin and Mr. Faisal Farhan, accompanied by students of the department. On arrival, the group received a safety and orientation briefing from factory management before visiting Walton’s main display center. The students were then divided into smaller groups, each guided by a dedicated field engineer.

At the refrigerator plant, engineers walked the students through the full production process, from raw material handling to final assembly. The students saw sheet metal stamping, vacuum forming of inner liners and polyurethane foam insulation, followed by the fitting of compressors, condensers, evaporators and capillary tubing, and the vacuuming and refrigerant charging that ensure efficient cooling.

At the air conditioner unit, which covers both indoor and outdoor unit lines, the students saw how heat exchangers are made through copper tube bending, fin insertion and automated brazing, and how inverter compressors, PCB control units and fan motors are fitted into the chassis. Engineers also highlighted Walton’s use of energy-efficient inverter technology and eco-friendly refrigerants.

Quality control was strict across both divisions. Every unit goes through multi-stage testing, including helium leak detection, hi-pot and grounding tests, and performance testing in controlled environmental chambers to verify cooling efficiency and sound levels.

After the tours, the delegation gathered in the auditorium for refreshments and an interactive session. Senior officials and lead engineers of Walton presented the company’s technological achievements, research and development work and future direction in consumer electronics. They also shared guidance on what the industry expects from engineering graduates, the use of PLC programming and industrial automation, and the role of local manufacturing in Bangladesh’s technological growth.

A Q&A session followed, in which students asked the experts about manufacturing challenges and real-world engineering applications.

The visit concluded with a crest presentation ceremony, where Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ehtesanul Islam and the accompanying faculty members handed a token of appreciation to Walton management. The Department of EEE and the IEEE AUST Student Branch express their sincere gratitude to Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC and the faculty members for making this educational and practical experience possible.
