Study Tour to Ashuganj Power Station for the Final-year Students of 'Power Plant Engineering and Economics' Course of the Dept. of EEE, AUST: Bridging Classroom Knowledge with Real-world Operations

The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) embarked on an enlightening study tour on August 12, 2023, to the 1690 MW Ashuganj Power Station in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria. The Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited (APSCL), one of Bangladesh's largest power generation entities, operates this station. The station's primary fuel for electricity generation is sourced from Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited, while the majestic river Meghna provides essential water for steam generation and cooling purposes.

Initiated under the visionary guidance of Dr. Taskin Jamal, Associate Professor of the Dept of EEE, the study tour was designed specifically for students enrolled in the 'Power Plant Engineering and Economics' course. The primary objective was to offer the students a firsthand experience of power station operations, which they had been studying in their academic curriculum. Accompanied by two esteemed faculty members of the EEE Department - Mr. Shameem Hasan, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Sk. Aqiluzzaman Shihab, Lecturer - a total of 42 enthusiastic students participated in this insightful excursion.

During the tour, students engaged in comprehensive activities, including enlightening lectures, visits to the generation and substation control rooms, as well as explorations of various vital components of the power station. Notable highlights included insights into the generator and turbine room, cooling system, and outdoor grid-substation unit.

Professor Dr. Tareq Aziz, the Head of the Department of EEE, lent his unwavering support to ensure the tour's successful execution. The Department of EEE extends heartfelt gratitude to the Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited for their generous support and warm hospitality. Additionally, we express our appreciation to the AUST administration for their consistent administrative backing. The study tour to Ashuganj Power Station exemplified the department's commitment to provide the students with practical exposure and enriching experiences that augment their academic journey.
