Workshop on constructive alignment conducted by Department of MPE

Constructive alignment is a method used to create teaching and learning activities and assessment assignments that directly target the desired learning outcomes in a way that is often not accomplished in conventional lectures, tutorial courses, and exams. On October 3rd, a session on constructive alignment was held at the AUST VC Seminar room and started promptly at 9:30 a.m. Prof. Dr. Mazharul Islam, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), AUST, led the session. The attendees were MPE Department faculty members. The workshop's activities were broken down into five segments. Beginning with an introduction to OBE, the discussion then moved on to include topics such as constructive alignment, learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities, and assessment. Sharing the faculty members' insightful opinions made the workshop more effective. Each module included a hands-on activity session in which all the faculty members took part and expressed their suggestions for optimizing the OBE systems. From there, a number of useful methods were developed for use in the upcoming OBE system.

The workshop also assisted the faculties in explaining the fundamental concepts of outcome-based education, the OBE Implementation Framework at AUST, applying constructive alignment in their courses, writing course outcomes using the SMART criteria, designing lesson plans with effective teaching & learning activities from an OBE perspective, and designing effective assessment tasks for course outcomes from an OBE perspective. With the vote of thanks from Head of the department Prof. Dr Sarwar Morshed the workshop came to an end at around 4:30 p.m.
