Industrial Visit of IEOM Society AUST Student Chapter to Akij Cement Ltd. and Akij Poly Fibre Industries Ltd.

On ๐‰๐š๐ง๐ฎ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ6, ๐ˆ๐„๐Ž๐Œ ๐’๐จ๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ญ๐ฒ ๐€๐”๐’๐“ ๐’๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ organized an industrial visit to ๐€๐ค๐ข๐ฃ ๐‚๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐ฒ ๐‹๐ญ๐.and ๐€๐ค๐ข๐ฃ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐…๐ข๐›๐ซ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐‹๐ญ๐. This visit gave IPE students an opportunity to see large-scale industrial operations up close and learn about practical manufacturing processes related to their studies.

At ๐€๐ค๐ข๐ฃ ๐‚๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐ฒ ๐‹๐ญ๐. Students observed the entire cement production process, from raw material handling to clinker production, grinding, and packaging. They learned about fly ash-free cement, which offers better strength and durability. The visit also included a detailed explanation of the Vertical Roller Mill (VRM) system, a modern and energy-efficient technology that combines grinding, drying, and material separation into one process.

Next, students visited ๐€๐ค๐ข๐ฃ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐…๐ข๐›๐ซ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐‹๐ญ๐. where they watched the production of polypropylene woven cement bags. They saw each stage, from raw granules to extrusion, weaving, cutting, stitching, and quality inspection. The differences between 1-ply and 2-ply bags were explained, focusing on their strength and durability for carrying cement. The facility’s automation and quality control measures were also highlighted.

The visit helped students understand how industrial processes are integrated and optimized, as well as how manufacturing units coordinate within the supply chain. Faculty members accompanied the students, linking what they saw to relevant academic topics. It was a valuable learning experience that will benefit students in their future studies and careers by connecting theory with real-world industry practices.
