Professor Dr. A. M. M.  Safiullah, Vice Chancellor of AUST presented the award winning students and faculty members of the Department of Architecture  who participated in the 2011 Birla Yuvaratna Student Design Competition on 27^th August 2012.  Nuzhat Azim Mithila and Rawshan Ara Jyoti jointly won the second prize  in the International Level. They received a crest and a cash prize of INR 7,500 each.  Ishtiaq Ahmed and Rizu Sarkar won honorable mention certificate. Their Faculty guide Asst. Professor Sujaul Islam and Lecturer Yousuf Reja also was awarded with a rest and a cash award of INR 5000 each. Mr. Subrata Mukherjee, Regional Head (Export), Mr. Sumon Som Asst. Manager(CASC) from Aditya Birla Group presented the Vice Chancellor with the awards. Acting Head of the Department of Architecture Professor Dr. Jasmin Ara Begum, Professor Bijon Behari Sarma and Lecturer Sylvia was also present. Sylvia was also a faculty guide of the students. Mr. Mohammad Nazmul Haque, local representative of Aditya Birla Group was also present.

It may be mentioned that a total of 1330 entries from 62 colleges from India and SAARC nations were submitted. The project was to design an Visitors' Information Centre for a Rainforest Ecosystem Institute. (url: http://yuvaratna.birlawhite.com/Winners/ThemeTwo)

It also maybe mentioned that Fatema Mehbuba Mehrin won the first prize in the 2010 Birla Yuvaratna Student Design Competition. Asst. Professor Sujaul Islam Khan also was awarded as the faculty guide.
