ABSTRACT

Use of different foaming agents in concrete mix makes concrete porous at the same time it increases the volume of concrete. The air entrapped in Foam Concrete can act as insulator and the pores created by the gas produced from the reaction of foaming agent and water is discontinuous in nature. These two properties of Foam concrete can make foam concrete as a good alternative of Lime terracing. Rigorous investigation on Thermal Conductivity, Water Absorption, Volume Change and Compressive Strength of Foam concrete, plain concrete and Lime terracing has shown that use of foaming agent (aluminum power) to reduce thermal conduction is effective and at the same time little use of foaming agents do not affects the strength much. And considering all aspects Foam concrete can be a good alternative of Lime terracing.

Key words: Lime terracing, foam concrete, thermal conductivity.
